During Easter weekend, President Obama met not with world leaders, but church leaders of a mixed background and descent, at the White House. A total of about 80 church leaders were in attendance for President Barack Obama, and word is that the president had private conversations with each of them, primarily about the state of the world and what exactly they believe may be needed to benefit the country’s citizens.
During the meeting with the congregation of church leaders, President Barack Obama spoke of his adoration of Jesus Christ and what He suffered for all mankind as well as what all God’s children have the potential to do – live as Jesus.
“Of all the stories passed down through the gospels, this one in particular speaks to me during this season. And I think of hanging — watching Christ hang from the cross, enduring the final seconds of His passion. He summoned what remained of His strength to utter a few last words before He breathed His last breath. ” ‘Father,’ He said, ‘into your hands I commit my spirit.’ ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ These words were spoken by our Lord and Savior, but they can just as truly be spoken by every one of us here today. Their meaning can just as truly be lived out by all of God’s children.”
It’s great to have a president in the White House at anytime who will make it an thing of importance to consult with the Christian leaders of America for insight and wisdom into the problems of today as well as verbally acknowledge Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He made on that cross, even suffering before the cross, for all mankind. There are some things that surely President Obama and some church leaders come to disagreement over, but this is why we all must pray for leaders as they are in a position that could destroy or deliver a country all on God’s watch. On the other hand it must be noted as stated by one of the reverend’s in attendance, Rev. T. DeWitt Smith, in a quote:
“It was helpful to meet with him. It is not the responsibility of the president to set our agenda. We already have an agenda.”
Preachers aren’t pushovers by a long shot, but they do honor the president, giving him all the respect that is due to him without putting him before God.
