Just when you think someone can be completely trusted, that person goes steals 1.5 million dollars right from the church grounds! Barbara Whitt of First Baptist Church of Morristown, Tennessee was arrested and charged with embezzling over 1 million dollars over certain periods of her 47 years as the church secretary. You can safely say that she was banking on going to church.
Word is that former church secretary Whitt was arrested after the church went prying into their own funds which then came up 500 grand missing! Not five dollars, but the big one, people, and that’s about two or three houses depending on the neighborhood and style – brick, siding or stucco. Now, First Baptist Church is said to have to scale back on a number of their activities because of one accused sticky fingers.
How did all these loose ends go unnoticed? It turns out that Ms. Whitt apparently wrote checks to herself that totaled up to $500,000 all in the last two years. Therefore, it looks as if the widow got tempted beyond belief…literally. To make matters even worse, those who know her are reported to actually thought she won the lottery because her purchases were so flamboyant, according to ABP.
Poor lady may serve time for this awful crime, maybe up to 15 years.
